The Hugs - American Indie Pop
2007- present
"The Hugs are an indie-pop and garage rock band from Portland, Oregon, formed in 2007 by lead singer-songwriter Danny Delegato during his time at Cleveland High School. Known for their energetic performances and a sound that blends 1960's British Invasion influences with pop and psychedelic elements, The Hugs have released eight studio albums, including their latest album, New Adventure, which was released on February 2, 2024. And the next release on June 5th, 2026 titled "Waking Up In The Future" Throughout their 18 years of releasing and touring, The Hugs have garnered critical acclaim, with NME and The Libertines Carl Barât praising their unique direction and Interview Magazine highlighting their British-sounding music to movie director Gus Van Sant praising the band in the NY post. After taking the plunge into the major label scene in 2008 in London, UK, The Hugs embraced the city's vibrant music culture, lived and performed, rubbed shoulders with UK legends. Opened for major acts in the US & UK (The Dandy Warhols, Dave Keuning (Guitarist of The Killers), The View, The Brian Jonestown Massacre, The Kooks, Finn Wolfhard, and Linda Perry (of 4 Non Blondes ) and has since been proving that even in the fast-paced world of big labels, their indie spirit and garage-pop roots could still shine through with a cheeky wink and a whole lot of catchy tunes. Their dynamic blend of catchy melodies and garage rock energy continues to captivate audiences, making them a standout act in the Portland music scene and beyond. Currently a 9th LP "Waking Up In The Future" is officially set for release June 5th, 2026 News/Updates: www.TheHugsPortland.com Press Release: “The Hugs push their alternative pop foundation into forward-thinking territory—blending classic song craft with subtle experimentation and modern production choices that feel distinctly 2026 without chasing indie trends.”
Portland, OR–based alternative pop band The Hugs return with Waking Up In The Future, their ninth full-length album, arriving June 5, 2026.
The record finds the band expanding their brit pop-influenced alternative sound into something more reflective, cinematic, and forward-looking—balancing melodic immediacy with late-night introspection.
Across nine tracks, Waking Up In The Future explores time, futuristic themes, romance, and quiet optimism (in an increasingly fast paced digital world), pairing warm guitar textures and hook-driven songwriting with subtle electronic elements, big drums, and lo-fi atmospheres. Songs shift effortlessly between intimate, late-night moments to expansive and cinematic passages. The album moves fluidly between hook driven pop moments and widescreen arrangements, capturing a band truly confident in both craft and restraint.
The album occupies a space where brit pop-informed melodies, futuristic textures, electronic rhythms, and guitar-driven pop intersect. Rather than abandoning accessibility, Waking Up In The Future treats experimentation as a tool, not a statement—every sonic risk is grounded in strong hooks, emotional clarity, and concise songwriting. The result is a record that feels futuristic and genre-fluid while remaining immediate, human, and instantly familiar. "
